Cleanverse Privacy Policy

Introduction

Cleanverse (operated by Cleanverse International Pte. Ltd., a company incorporated in Singapore) is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how Cleanverse (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares personal information in the course of providing a compliance-focused technology infrastructure layer for blockchain value transfers. We do not itself provide custody, exchange, issuance, or other regulated financial services, but instead enable identity-bound, Travel Rule-compliant transfers in cooperation with licensed third parties. It applies to all users of Cleanverse's services worldwide. By using Cleanverse, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Policy.

Data We Collect

We limit the personal data we collect to what is necessary to verify your identity and enable compliant transactions. The types of personal data we may collect include:

  • Identity Information:
Full name, date of birth, nationality, and contact details (such as email or phone number). We may also collect government-issued identification details (e.g. passport or ID card information) and proof of address as part of Know-Your-Customer (KYC) processes.
  • Biometric Data:
Biometric identifiers like facial images or live video selfies, collected and used only for identity verification purposes (for example, matching your selfie to your ID document). We obtain your explicit consent where required to process biometric data. We do not retain biometric templates or raw biometric data on our servers after verification is completed. Such data, if collected, is processed transiently and primarily by Third-Party Verification Providers acting under their own regulatory obligations; any biometric data is used transiently for verification and then deleted from our systems. (Note: Our verification vendors may retain biometric data for a period required by law or their compliance obligations - please refer to their privacy notices.)
  • Financial Information:
Bank account or payment card details and related information, used to confirm bank account ownership and link your identity to a verified funding source. We do not collect any bank login credentials. To confirm account ownership, we may receive limited account identifiers or confirmation results from your bank, which we retain only as necessary for compliance. We do not collect or store bank login credentials or perform payment processing. Any bank-account identifiers received are limited to confirmation results necessary for compliance validation and are retained only in hashed or anonymized form where feasible.
  • Blockchain Transaction Data:
Information about your on-chain transactions within the Cleanverse network. This includes wallet addresses, A-Pass credential identifiers, and records of A-Token transfers (such as timestamps, sending/receiving wallet IDs, asset type, and amount). No personal identity details are recorded on-chain only pseudonymous identifiers and cryptographic hashes link transactions to your verified status. For clarity, Cleanverse records only pseudonymous identifiers, hashes, and A-Pass credential tags. Cleanverse does not record user names, account balances, or personal financial details on-chain.
  • Usage and Technical Data:
When you interact with our app or website, we may collect technical information like device identifiers, operating system, IP address, browser type, and usage statistics. We use cookies or similar technologies on our website to remember user preferences and gather aggregated analytics. This data helps us improve our services and user experience. (You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but core features might require basic cookies to function.)

We do not collect personal data beyond what is necessary for providing our compliance services. In particular, we do not intentionally collect any sensitive personal data unrelated to compliance (such as your personal financial transactions outside of Cleanverse, health information, or precise geolocation) unless you explicitly provide it or it is required for legal compliance. If you choose to provide us with additional information, we will handle it in accordance with this Policy.

How We Use Personal Data

Cleanverse uses your personal data for our legitimate business and compliance purposes, including:

  • Identity Verification & Compliance:
The primary use of personal data is to facilitate verification of your identity by Third-Party Verification Providers and to perform necessary compliance checks (e.g., AML, KYC, and CFT) as required by applicable law. Cleanverse itself does not act as a regulated reporting entity for KYC/AML purposes but relies on attestations or proofs from licensed providers. This process ensures that only verified, compliant individuals can obtain an A-Pass credential and transact on Cleanverse.
  • Service Delivery:
We use your verified identity credentials to enable A-Token transactions and other Cleanverse services. Notably, personal details like your real name or ID number are not exposed on-chain during these transactions - only cryptographic proofs and anonymized IDs are used on the blockchain.
  • Security and Fraud Prevention:
We use personal data to protect our users and the network. For example, identity and transaction data may be used to detect and prevent fraud, suspicious activity, or violations of our terms. If an A-Pass credential is linked to illicit activity, we may revoke or suspend that credential. We enforce compliance rules using anonymized indicators, without publicly revealing your sensitive details.
  • Service Improvement and Analytics:
We may analyze usage data and user feedback to improve Cleanverse's features, user interface, and performance. Wherever possible, this analysis is done on an aggregated or anonymized basis. Your identifiable information is not used for marketing, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to compliance and service delivery.
  • Communication:
We use your contact information (such as email) to send service-related communications. This includes messages about account status, transaction alerts, verification requests, updates to our terms or policies, and customer support responses.
  • Legal Obligations:
In certain cases, we may process and retain your data to comply with legal and regulatory requirements (for example, responding to lawful information requests or fulfilling record-keeping obligations under financial regulations).

We are committed to processing personal data in a lawful, fair, and necessary manner for the purposes described above. We do not use your personal data for anyincompatible secondary purposes like selling your information or advertising.

Legal Basis for Processing

When applicable data protection laws apply, Cleanverse relies on the following legal bases to process personal data:

  • Consent:
We rely on your consent for processing certain data, especially biometric data for identity verification. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time, but note this may prevent us from verifying your identity and providing our services.
  • Contract:
Processing of personal data is often necessary to perform the services you request. When you sign up and agree to our terms, a contract is formed under which we must verify your identity and maintain a compliant transaction environment. We cannot provide an A-Pass or facilitate A-Token transactions without processing certain personal data, so this data is processed on the basis of contractual necessity.
  • Legal Obligation:
Cleanverse (and our financial institution partners) may be subject to laws that require collecting, verifying, and retaining personal data (for example, AML/CFT regulations or financial services laws). In such cases, processing your data is necessary for us to fulfill our legal obligations.
  • Legitimate Interests:
We may process data as needed for our legitimate interests, such as maintaining the security of our platform, preventing fraud, protecting our rights, or improving our services. We will only rely on this basis after confirming that our legitimate interests are not overridden by your privacy rights. For instance, maintaining hashed records of verifications helps prove our compliance while posing minimal risk to user privacy.

Where required by law, we will identify and document the specific legal basis applicable to the processing of your data. If our purposes for using your data change, or if we need to process your data for a new purpose, we will notify you and, where legally necessary, obtain your additional consent.

When Cleanverse facilitates the transfer of Personal Data to Licensed Institutions or Third-Party Verification Providers, such entities act as independent data controllers under their own privacy policies. Cleanverse does not determine, and shall not be deemed to determine, the means or purposes of processing by such entities, and expressly disclaims any responsibility or liability for their data handling practices.

Data Storage & Security

Your privacy and data security are central to Cleanverse's design. We employ rigorous measures to protect personal information and to minimize data exposure. However, please note that while we strive to safeguard your information, no security system or data transmission method is completely infallible - we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data against all possible breaches.

  • Local Storage of Personal Data:
Whenever feasible, we avoid storing sensitive personal data on our servers. All sensitive identity details you provide (e.g. your name, ID number, document scans, biometric identifiers) are encrypted and stored on your local device via the Cleanverse app, rather than on Cleanverse's servers. Our backend systems retain only minimal verification outcomes (e.g., hashes, proofs, status flags). We do not centrally store raw PII or biometric templates. Your device's Cleanverse wallet handles all encryption and decryption of this personal data. We do not intentionally store raw identity documents or full unencrypted personally identifiable information (PII) on our backend systems, except transiently as needed for delivery, support, security, or to meet legal/contractual duties. Cleanverse employs TLS and symmetric encryption for all data exchanges. However, Cleanverse does not control third-party infrastructure (such as KYC vendors' servers or banks' systems) and disclaims liability for their independent security incidents.
  • User Device Security:
Because your sensitive personal data is primarily stored on your own device, you are responsible for maintaining the security of that device and the Cleanverse app. We strongly encourage you to use strong passwords/PINs or biometrics for device access, enable device encryption, and keep your device software up to date. Do not share your Cleanverse wallet credentials or give others access to your device. Cleanverse cannot ensure the security of data on a device that you control if the device is compromised or if you knowingly or unknowingly allow unauthorized access.
  • Minimal Server Records:
Our backend systems store only hashed data, anonymous identifiers, and verification proofs necessary for the Cleanverse network to function. For example, when your identity is verified, our server may store a cryptographic hash or reference of your A-Pass credential, the outcome of the verification (e.g. a verified/unverified flag or risk score), and timestamps. These records do not contain readable personal info - they merely prove that a verification was completed and link your wallet to a compliance status. We may also store anonymized results (such as a pass/fail indicator or compliance tier) and cryptographic proofs that certain checks were satisfied, without revealing the underlying personal data.
  • End-to-End Encryption:
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (e.g. TLS for data in motion) and encryption at rest for data stored on our systems, where applicable. Certain operations (for example, fraud reviews, vendor callbacks, or customer support) may involve secure processing on our servers, but even in those cases we apply encryption and strict access controls. Personal data stored on your device is secured by the wallet's encryption mechanisms. Access to the Cleanverse app on your device is protected by the authentication methods you choose (such as a password, biometric unlock, or device PIN).
  • Secure Architecture:
Cleanverse's platform is built with privacy by design. We employ privacy-preserving techniques (including, where feasible, zero-knowledge proofs and redacted attestations) to enforce compliance rules without exposing raw personal data. For example, our smart contracts ensure that only wallets with a valid A-Pass credential can transact, using cryptographic credentials rather than requiring personal details on-chain.
  • Access Controls:
Within our organization, any personal data (even in encrypted or hashed form) is accessible only to authorized personnel or systems on a need-to-know basis. Administrative access to servers and databases is tightly restricted, uses multi-factor authentication, and is logged. We periodically review internal permissions to ensure a least-privilege approach, meaning staff only access the minimum data necessary for their role.
  • Third-Party Security:
When we work with third-party service providers, we choose reputable companies with strong security practices. All such providers are contractually obligated to protect data to standards equivalent to our own. For example, our cloud infrastructure providers employ physical and network security safeguards at their data centers. (While we contractually require high security standards from partners, Cleanverse does not directly control the day-to-day operations of third parties; thus, we cannot accept liability for security failures on their side beyond our contractual remedies.)
  • Data Breach Response:
We have a data breach response plan in place. Despite our efforts to protect data, if any security incident occurs that compromises personal data, we will notify affected users and/or authorities as required by applicable law and our contractual obligations, and we will take steps to mitigate the impact and prevent recurrence.

Overall, Cleanverse's approach to security and privacy is to minimize data collection and retention, and to keep any necessary data heavily protected. By storing sensitive information with the user and only holding verification proofs and hashed references centrally, we significantly reduce the risk of large-scale data exposure. Nevertheless, no digital system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or data loss will never occur. We therefore urge you to practice good security hygiene on your part and immediately notify us if you suspect any compromise.

Sharing of Personal Data

We treat your personal information as confidential and do not share it with third parties except in the limited scenarios described below:

  • Identity Verification Partners:
We partner with third-party KYC/AML service providers to perform identity verification on our behalf. When you go through our onboarding process, the personal data and documents you provide (including any ID scans or biometric selfies) may be securely transmitted from your device to such a provider for processing. These providers act under our instructions as data processors and may act as independent data controllers under applicable law, determining their own retention and processing obligations. Cleanverse does not control their processing beyond the initial transfer of user data, and users should review the provider's privacy notice. They are authorized by you to use your data only for purposes of verifying your identity and compliance status. They will retain your data only as long as necessary for verification and legal compliance. Cleanverse itself does not permanently store the raw personal data you submit for verification beyond what is needed to facilitate this process. (Please review the privacy notice of the verification provider for details on their handling of your data.)
  • Financial Institution Partners:
If you onboard via, or initiate a transaction with, one of our member banks or financial institutions, certain data may be shared with that institution as needed for compliance or service delivery. For example, if you use Cleanverse to request a financial service from a partner bank, then with your authorization we facilitate the transfer of your relevant KYC details directly from your device to that institution. Where feasible, such transfers occur end-to-end (device-to-bank) or via secure encrypted relays; we avoid routing raw personal data through our own servers unless it is necessary for delivery, security checks, or compliance logging. In these cases, Cleanverse simplyfacilitates the encrypted handoff once you consent. Likewise, we may receive limited confirmation data from the institution (for instance, confirmation that you hold an account there or that you passed their checks) in order to issue your A-Pass credential. All participating institutions are expected to handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy laws and to use it only for compliance and providing services to you. However, once your information is transmitted to a partner institution, that institution will manage your data as an independent controller under its own privacy policies. Cleanverse does not control the data protection practices or retention schedules of our partner institutions beyond the initial transfer requirements. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any bank or financial service provider that you connect with through Cleanverse. Once your information is transmitted to a Licensed Institution, that institution acts as an independent controller responsible for its own compliance and data handling. Cleanverse disclaims liability for such processing beyond securely facilitating the transfer upon your authorization.
  • Service Providers:
We use trusted third-party service providers to help operate and improve Cleanverse. These include:
    • Cloud Hosting and Storage:
Infrastructure providers that host our applications and backend systems. As noted, our servers mainly store hashed/anonymized data, but even that data may reside on third-party cloud servers. Our cloud providers are not permitted to access or decrypt the data we store with them, and we apply encryption and other safeguards to any information stored in the cloud.
    • Analytics Tools:
We may use analytics services (third-party tools or libraries) to collect usage data on our website or app. These tools might set cookies or collect device info, usage times, and similar data. All such information we receive is aggregated and does not include sensitive personal info. We use it strictly to understand user interactions and improve functionality. You may disable or refuse cookies in your browser or device settings, though certain features of our site or app may require basic cookies to function properly.
    • Communication Platforms:
If we send emails, notifications, or provide customer support via third-party platforms, these providers will handle your contact information and message content solely for the purpose of sending communications or facilitating support. For example, we might use an email delivery service to send account alerts or a customer support software to manage inquiries.
    • Other Vendors:
From time to time, we may engage auditors, security consultants, payment processors, or other expert services. In the course of providing their services, these vendors might incidentally encounter minimal personal data (e.g., an auditor reviewing our procedures might see a sample of anonymized records, or a payment processor might see a transaction reference). In all cases, we contractually bind our vendors to strict confidentiality and high data protection standards, and they are not permitted to use your information for any purpose other than to provide services to us.
  • Legal and Regulatory Disclosures:
We may disclose personal information to third parties such as government authorities, law enforcement agencies, regulators, courts, or affiliated institutions if we determine that such disclosure is legally necessary or required by applicable law. In these cases, we will limit the disclosure to what is explicitly required and, whenever legally permitted, we will inform the affected users of the request. (Please note that in some situations we may be legally prohibited from notifying you of certain regulatory/law-enforcement requests) Additionally, if we investigate and find evidence of fraudulent or illicit activity, we may share relevant data with appropriate authorities or partner institutions to the extent allowable by law and necessary to fulfill our joint compliance duties.
  • With Your Consent:
Aside from the scenarios above, if we ever need to share your data for any other purpose, we will seek your consent. You have the choice to agree or decline any such data sharing. We also want to be clear that Cleanverse does not sell your personal data to any third party for their own marketing or other independent use, and we do not share your personal information with third-party advertisers.

In all sharing scenarios, we strive to minimize the data disclosed and apply appropriate safeguards (such as encryption in transit and data processing agreements) to protect your information. Any third party receiving personal data from us is expected to provide an adequate level of protection and to use the data only for the purposes for which it was given, in line with this Policy and applicable laws. If you have questions about data sharing in a particular context, please contact us for more information.

Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Policy or to meet applicable legal and compliance requirements. Our retention practices are guided by the principle of data minimization and vary based on where the data is stored:

  • On Your Device:
Your personal identity data (such as your verified identity credentials and documents) is primarily stored on your own device via the Cleanverse app. You have direct control over this local data. If you delete the Cleanverse app from your device, the personal information stored locally will be deleted from your device's storage (note: we recommend doing this only if you intend to stop using Cleanverse, as deleting the app will remove your verified credential). Cleanverse does not maintain a shadow copy of your full personal details on our servers, so in general you are in charge of how long your core PII remains by choosing whether to keep or delete your app data. Be aware that if you enable device-level or cloud backups on your mobile operating system, the encrypted Cleanverse app data might be included in those backups; such backups are managed by your device provider, not by Cleanverse. You can disable cloud backups in your device settings if you do not want your Cleanverse data to be backed up externally.
  • Verification Records on Server:
We keep hashed records, cryptographic proof data, and minimal metadata on our servers to maintain the integrity of the compliance network. These records - which do not contain raw personal info - are retained for as long as you are a Cleanverse user and for a period afterward as required or permitted by law. For example, identity verification records (in hashed or reference form) may be retained for up to 7 years (or longer if required by applicable regulations) to meet anti-money laundering record-keeping obligations, notwithstanding any earlier request from you to delete data. After the applicable retention period expires, or once the data is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymize those server records. Cleanverse does not retain full ID documents or biometric data beyond transient processing steps.
  • KYC Vendor Data:
Any personal data that is handled by our third-party KYC/AML infrastructure partner (such as copies of your ID documents or biometric templates) is subject to that provider's retention policies and legal obligations. We require our verification vendors to not retain your data longer than necessary for the verification process and compliance, and in practice your verification documents and biometric data should not be stored indefinitely by them. Typically, once your identity verification is complete and any legally mandated retention period passes, those vendors will dispose of your documents/biometrics. However, Cleanverse does not dictate the exact timeline or process of data deletion by third-party KYC providers; we encourage you to review the privacy policy of the verification provider for details on how long they may keep your data.
  • Transaction Records:
On-chain transaction data (such as the public blockchain logs of A-Token movements) may remain indefinitely on the blockchain ledger by the nature of blockchain technology. However, those on-chain records do not contain personal identifiers - they are pseudonymous entries. Off-chain, our system may keep records linking transactions to A-Pass credential IDs or hashed user identifiers for audit, dispute resolution, and support purposes. We retain these off-chain transaction-linked records only for the duration required by compliance regulations or business needs, and they are subject to the same deletion/anonymization practices as other server records.
  • Communications:
If you contact us (e.g., via a support email or chat) or if we send you communications, we may retain those correspondence records as long as needed to address your inquiry and maintain a record of our communications with you. Support correspondence helps us serve you better and provides an audit trail of how we handled requests or issues. These records will typically be kept for a reasonable time, and deleted or anonymized when no longer needed for business or legal purposes.

Once the retention period for any personal data expires, or if you request deletion of your data and we have no continuing legal obligation or legitimate business need to retain it, we will take appropriate steps to ensure the data is deleted or irreversibly anonymized. For data stored on your local device, you can delete it by removing the Cleanverse app (as noted above). For any server-side data that is linked to you (such as a hash referencing your credential), we can disassociate or erase those links upon verified request, effectively “forgetting” any connection between you and that data. After such severance, we would no longer be able to identify you in our systems (meaning you would have to re-verify your identity from scratch if you decide to use Cleanverse again in the future).

Please note: Due to technical constraints (for example, routine data backups or the immutable nature of blockchain records), some data may persist in our systems or archives for a period of time even after active records are deleted, and you should not expect that every trace of your data will be completely removed immediately. We also reserve the right to decline a deletion request if deletion is not feasible or permitted (for instance, if retaining certain data is required by law). In any case where we cannot fulfill a deletion or access request, we will inform you of the reasons, unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction and applicable data protection laws, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. Cleanverse's architecture is designed to give users significant control over their own data, and we are committed to honoring valid requests concerning personal information. Your principal rights may include:

  • Access:
You have the right to request confirmation of whether we are processing your personal data, and to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you in a common format. Because detailed personal information is primarily stored on your device (in the Cleanverse app), most of that data is already directly accessible to you. For any personal data on our servers that is associated with you (such as verification status flags or hashed identifiers), you may request that we describe and provide that information to you. We will provide the relevant data and information about its processing to the extent required by applicable law and insofar as we act as a data controller for that data. These access rights are subject to legal exemptions - for example, we may not disclose data that we are prohibited from sharing under AML/CFT regulations or other laws.
  • Rectification:
If any personal data we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to ask us to correct it. In practice, because Cleanverse does not maintain a centralized user profile with all your PII, corrections typically involve you updating the information in your app and re-submitting it for verification (if necessary). We will work with our verification partner to update records as appropriate. If any of our stored metadata (hashes, status flags, etc.) is found to be erroneous, we will correct those as well once we have the accurate information.
  • Erasure (Right to be Forgotten):
You may request deletion of your personal data in certain circumstances. As described in the Data Retention section, the most effective way to remove your personal information from Cleanverse is for you to delete the Cleanverse app from your device, which erases the locally stored personal data. If you take this step, we encourage you to notify us so that we can also remove or anonymize any corresponding references or hashes on our servers that could be used to indirectly identify you. We will comply with legitimate deletion requests provided that we have no overriding legal obligation or other valid reason to retain the data. For example, we cannot delete records that we are required by law to keep for a certain period, or data that is technically embedded in backup systems or public blockchains (which cannot be altered). We will inform you if we must retain certain data and explain the applicable exception. In general, if we decline a deletion request because of a legal requirement or technical impracticability, we will let you know (unless we are legally restricted from explaining).
  • Withdrawal of Consent:
If we are processing any of your data based on your consent (for instance, biometric processing that you previously agreed to), you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. You can do so by contacting us (see the Contact Us section below). Please note that withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing we have already carried out based on your consent before withdrawal. However, if you withdraw consent for a process that is crucial to our services (such as identity verification), we may not be able to continue providing those services to you. We will advise you of any consequences at the time you seek to withdraw consent.
  • Objection to Processing:
You have the right to object to certain types of processing of your personal data, or to ask us to restrict processing. For example, you might object to processing based on legitimate interests or request that we not use your data for a particular purpose. We will consider such objections and honor them if there is no compelling reason for us to continue the processing and no legal requirement that prevents us from stopping. If we agree to restrict processing, we will inform you of what that means in practice (it could involve suspending your account if the data is essential for service). If we cannot comply with a request to restrict or cease processing, we will provide you an explanation.
  • Data Portability:
In some jurisdictions, you have the right to request that we transfer the personal data you have provided to us to another service provider (where technically feasible). Given that Cleanverse uses decentralized credentials and much of your data is held by you, we will assist in exporting or transferring your basic verified identity data upon request, if possible. This could involve providing you (or a service you designate) with a copy of the key verified data points or attestations in a structured, commonly used electronic format. Note that portability rights apply to personal data you provided to us directly, and only where the transfer is technically feasible and permissible by law.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. For your security, we will need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests (for example, we might ask you to send the request from your registered email address or complete a verification step through the Cleanverse app). We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law (typically within 30 working days). Please understand that our ability to fulfill certain requests may be limited or subject to exceptions - for instance, if fulfilling your request would infringe on another person's rights, is not required or allowed under law, or if we are unable to isolate the data due to technical factors. If we deny your request, either fully or partially, we will explain the reasons to the extent we are permitted to do so.

Please note that certain rights (e.g., access, rectification, deletion) may need to be exercised directly with Third-Party Verification Providers or Licensed Institutions, where those entities act as independent controllers of your data.

Children's Privacy

Cleanverse is not intended for individuals under the age of majority in their jurisdiction (which is 18 in most cases). We do not knowingly collect personal data from such individuals. Our services - which involve financial transactions and identity verification - are designed for adult users (or, in certain cases, authorized representatives of businesses). If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child under 18 has provided personal information to us, please contact us immediately. We will promptly take steps to delete the information and, if applicable, terminate the minor's account or access to our services.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, legal obligations, or privacy practices. If we make material changes, we will notify users by posting the updated policy on our website/app and updating the 'Last Updated' date at the top. In some cases, we may provide additional notice of significant changes (such as via email or an in-app notification). We encourage you to review this Policy periodically for any updates. Your continued use of Cleanverse after a Policy change becomes effective signifies your acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not agree with changes to the Policy, you should stop using the services and inform us if you wish to have your data deleted (subject to the terms above).
